Understanding and treating the jaw joint.
What Are TMDs?
Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) affect the joints, muscles, and structures that allow you to open and close your mouth. Symptoms range from jaw clicking and locking to facial pain, earache, and chronic headaches — and they are frequently misdiagnosed or attributed to other causes.
Our Assessment Approach
We assess the full masticatory system: the TMJs, the masticatory muscles, the bite, and cervical posture. We use validated diagnostic criteria and, where appropriate, imaging to arrive at an accurate diagnosis — because effective treatment depends entirely on understanding what's actually wrong.
Treatment Options
Management may involve occlusal splints, physiotherapy referral, trigger point injections, lifestyle modifications, or neuromodulation using botulinum toxin — sometimes in combination. We design treatment plans around the evidence and around you.

Advantages
- Accurate diagnosis using validated international diagnostic criteria
- Assessment of the whole masticatory system — not just the joint
- Range of evidence-based treatment options
- Botulinum toxin neuromodulation available for muscle-related TMD
- Physiotherapy collaboration where appropriate
- Management of bruxism (teeth grinding) as a contributing factor
Considerations
- TMDs often require long-term management rather than a one-off cure
- Occlusal splints must be worn consistently for benefit
- Results vary — some patients respond faster than others
- Contributing factors such as stress and posture require patient engagement to address
